Description
Turmeric is a plant that belongs to the Zingiberaceae family widely cultivated in India, China and a large part of the Middle East.
The rhizome of this plant is used, both fresh and dried, to spice practically any dish.
For example, it can be used to spice risottos, instead of saffron, or to flavor a very normal pasta dish: just add turmeric to the cooking water or to its seasoning.
If, on the other hand, you want to give your steak an extra touch of flavour, add it at the end of cooking: it will not cover the flavour, but will delicately enhance it. By the same principle, you can use culcuma in meatballs, stew and ragout. For example, try the spiced roast with potatoes.
It can be consumed in addition to yoghurt, in infusions or in milk, preparing the famous golden milk. It can be added in powder form to bread dough or biscuit crust, veggie burger mix and even custard.
Usage tips
The best way to use turmeric is by combining it with a little pepper. Pepper ensures maximum absorption of its active ingredients. Even fats, such as olive oil improve its absorption.
So the advice is to use it raw in association with pepper and vegetable oil to season your dishes.
