Description
Sage ( Salvia officinalis ) is a small aromatic herbaceous perennial plant with delicate labiate flowers belonging to the large Lamiaceae family.
In addition to being a plant widely used in cuisine all over the world and in particular in the Mediterranean one, sage can be used for the preparation of herbal teas, as well as baths, sitz baths and footbaths.
Our Salvia officinalis plants are all grown on our land in the Fermano countryside, in Italy. The cultivation is 100% natural, as no pesticides, herbicides, fertilizers or other chemical substances that could harm the environment or people are used.
The collection of the leaves, strictly done by hand, is done before the flowering in May and again in October. Once harvested, the Salvia leaves are dried by collecting them in bunches hung upside down in shady and sheltered places, or through special tunnels with controlled temperature and ventilation. This is to ensure drying at low temperatures (<43°), so as to keep all the precious active ingredients contained in the plant intact.
Finally the leaves are shredded and packaged. The herbal tea is then ready to be prepared and enjoyed hot, or at room temperature.
Usage tips
Infusion : leave a teaspoon of dried sage to rest for 8-10 minutes in a cup of boiling hot water (about 250 ml), taking care to cover it with a lid or saucer. After that, filter and drink the tea while it's hot.
For sage leaves and herbal tea to be effective, they must never come into contact with something metallic (iron, copper, aluminum, etc.).
